Engineering Expert Witness Services
Forensic engineering experts provide answers to the root cause of structural failures, industrial accidents, fire/explosions, product liability and accidents including Forklifts, Machinery, Structures, Equipment, Cranes and other industrial/commercial equipment.
We provide forensic services in a range of applications including energy, chemical, industrial, construction, electrical and transportation. For over 40 years, we’ve supported law firms and major insurance companies in State, Federal & International Courts (on both Plaintiff and Defendant cases) – from simple to complex issues.
Our work has included interacting with US government agencies such as the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Chemical Safety Board (CSB). Our forensic engineering services also extend to damage assessment and Fitness for Service (Run/Repair/Replace) decisions.
As an independent forensic engineering firm, we provide unbiased, comprehensive technical results.
Our experience includes:
- Plaintiff award over failed ductwork in an Allegheny County School (PA).
- $98.8 M plaintiff award in a construction contract interference case
- Forensic Investigation of Forklift Accident
- Residential Construction/ Remodelling Disputes
- Served as experts into the cause of a major oil pipeline spill
- $590 M ICC binding arbitration investigation on Coke Oven Battery design/ construction issues.
- Recognized in the American Lawyer Media Top 100 Verdict Awards of 2006 and 2007 (PDFs)

We were asked to provide engineering technical expertise in a ($200 M) construction litigation regarding the structural integrity of a coke oven battery. Finite element analysis was used to calculate temperatures, deflections, strains, and stresses to evaluate the long term integrity of the roof and heating walls. The results showed that the battery oven walls would not deflect enough to induce instability. The construction imperfections had no meaningful effect on the structural integrity, robustness, or longevity of the battery.
Because we are an engineering consulting firm – with a knowledge of materials, metallurgy, fabrication practices and finite element analysis – we offer forensic services, providing comprehensive, accurate results. Our services range from local cases – to high-profile matters throughout the world.
Our experience has proven to be quite successful in court, providing quantitative results and effective visuals/ animations.
- Based on accurate engineering models
- Clarify the root cause
- Enables judges and juries to easily understand the technical issues
Materials and engineering principles hold true across many applications – including energy, mining, manufacturing and petrochemicals.

Weld/ Materials Expert Witness
Litigation involving welding typically involves product defects/failure or safety-related incidents. Our expert witness services offer a full spectrum of testing in conjunction with engineering analysis tools to evaluate the root cause of failure. These investigations include:
- Weld/ Materials Testing
- Metallurgical Examination & Testing
- Chemical and Mechanical Analyses
- Corrosion Testing
- Electron Beam Microscopy
The right forensic expert can offer a powerful advantage during litigation – what sets us apart is our multi-disciplinary experience in engineering design, analysis, materials and troubleshooting. When performing forensic analysis, we thoroughly investigate the issues – from taking data at the scene, to analyzing drawings, material specifications, and supporting documentation.
Our investigations range from the simple to complex. Quite often Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to evaluate design, materials and fabrication/ construction defects. Finite Element Analysis has been qualified for use in the aerospace, marine and defense industries – and has passed the Daubert Challenge. FEA models and animations produce accurate results which are used to help judges and juries understand the technical issues.
