Here is an overview of this book:
This Handbook is written for mechanical designers, engineers, manufacturers, and constructors who wish to take advantage of all that has been learned by mechanical and structural failures over the past 50 years in order to avoid similar failures in the future and to evaluate Fitness for Service.
Part 1 Summarizes the lessons learned in engineering design, fabrication and construction
Part 2 Describes the major advantages of finite element analysis in performing failure analysis of components
Part 3 Describes how mathematical simulations and materials science are effective tools to accurately quantify the relative degrees of liability between the defendants - which is useful in litigation and arbitration.

Dr. William O’Donnell, PhD, PE has extensive professional experience in the analysis of components including fatigue and fracture safety evaluations and failure analyses. He has developed methods for evaluating fatigue, stress corrosion cracking and safety margins of components and components. He has served as the Chairman of the Subgroup of Fatigue Strength of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, as well as Chairman of the Subgroup on Design. The Pittsburgh Section of the ASME named him “Engineer of the Year” in 1988, and he is listed in the Engineers Joint Council “Engineers of Distinction” and Marquis “Who’s Who in the World”.
