Failure Analysis and Redesign of Cracked Conveyor Ductwork. The Reinforced Conveyor Ductwork had Cracked Shortly after Being Placed in Service.
Finite element analysis results determined that the ductwork had been overly-constrained. Thermal breathing and bending due to a thermal gradient that existed between the top and bottom surfaces were constrained, creating high thermal stresses.
We subsequently redesigned the ductwork reinforcements and the structural supports.
