Failure Analysis was Performed on Reinforced Conveyor Ductwork that had Cracked Shortly after Being Placed in Service.Â
The results determined that the ductwork had been overly-constrained. Thermal breathing and bending due to a thermal gradient that existed between the top and bottom surfaces were constrained, creating high thermal stresses.
We subsequently redesigned the ductwork reinforcements and the structural supports.
