Creep Tensile Instability Solutions for Shell Structures
For the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Advanced Reactors Division, creep tensile instability solutions were obtained for a biaxially-stressed sheet, a pressurized spherical vessel and a cylindrical shell under combined pressure and axial loading. The effective and maximum tensile strains at instability were compared to values for uniaxial loading conditions. The results are used in applying uniform elongation values measured in creep rupture tests to obtain allowable strains for the biaxial conditions encountered in design applications.
