FEA and Structural Assessment of Mining Bulkhead Door

Bulkhead Door Analysis - FEA Model

The structural integrity of bulkheads was a very important issue in safely operating mines for a particular client. In the event of a water inrush from one side of mining operations that exceeds the mine pumping capacity, bulkhead doors are to be closed to save the the other side of the mine from flooding.

O’Donnell Consulting used finite element analysis (FEA) to perform an independent structural assessment of the bulkhead doors, the stress transfer cylinder embedded into the thick walled cylinder, and the concrete cast into the rock excavation.
